Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
What will happen to a minor drug dealer and theif?
I know a 17 year old that is dealing drugs at his school and has stolen radar detectors from the school parking lot, a teacher's computer and various other electronics. I want to know what will happen to him if he is caught. Is this considered a felony and/or misdemeanor? What court does he go to? Will he likely be tried as a minor or an adult? What is the typical sentence for such a crime?

Re: What will happen to a minor drug dealer and theif?
At 17 he is an adult, and will be charged in the adult system, if charges are filed. If there is evidence to support a charge of dealing drugs in a school, that will be a felony charge. The theft charges will depend upon the value of the items stolen. There are grades of misdemeanors and felonies which progressively become more severe as the value of the items increases. Whether or not he would be eligible for community supervision (probation) would depend on the individual circumstances, together with his past criminal history. TCL
