My husband was forced to accept a 40 yr plea bargain, i hired an attny 2 yrs ago to file a writ on mu husbands behalf. The attny has skipped town with my money and our case. I have no idea what if anything he has filed with the courts. Is it to late to file the writ myself and how would i go about starting the writ? Is there a time limit on filing appeals after the court hearing? And how would i go about finding out what paperwork has been filed?

Contact the Bar Grievance Committee -- they may be able to recover your attorney fees if no work was done. In that event you can retain a new attorney. If a writ has been filed, it will be noted on the District Clerk's file. Go to the courthouse, and ask to review the file. They may have to pull it from archives/storage, but you can get a copy of it. There are appellate deadlines, and you can research that information at the courthouse law library. You may need to hire another attorney. Good luck.
