Actually, if you're the man who got this 17-year old child pregnant, you could be arrested for rape since the cut-off age for having sex is 18. 18 is also the age at which permission is not required from the girl's parents in order to marry her. Hence, you need to get written permission from her parents before you can legally marry her. Marrying her, however, will not necessarily protect you against being arrested for statutory rape.
