Legal Question in DUI Law in Texas

contacting prosecutor in DWI case

I live in Texas. I'm acquainted with a person who goes to trial for a DWI offense in a month and he plans to use a jury trial to get off the charge. He has a drinking problem. It's not the first or last time to drive while intoxicated. Should I contact the prosecutor and tell her what I know about his problem? He almost hit a car head-on, ran off the road and blew .133 when tested after arrest. What to do?

Re: contacting prosecutor in DWI case

that really is totally up to you. Telling the prosecutor will probably hurt this person criminally and will likely not result in any help for the defendant.

Some counties have programs for DWI offenders that if they get help for their drinking problems, the criminal charges get dropped or reduced.
