The probation officer didn't make up the conditions. The court did.
If you look at his conditions of probation you will read that he has to have an interlock machine on his vehicle for a term of years or until it is determined that he has exhibited enough good behavior to warrant that the machine be taken off.
Be careful with the machine because there are a lot of things that can lock a person out. Foods that have yeast like a honey bun. Dr. Pepper, Mouthwash, breath spray... and the list goes on and on.
Get a list of things that will set off the machine so there are not any problems.
When I say problems I mean if his machine locks him out, the probation department will file a motion to revoke his probation.
Be careful.
