on probation what legal backing do they have that says you cant drink ......it doesnt seem that doing someting that is not a privilage could be reovoked by court of law ???

There are several limitations placed on folks when they are on probation. Some people are told not to leave their house during a certain time. There are also limitations about who people can and cannot associate with. The court is allowed to place reasonable restrictions on folks while they are under the supervision of the court (probation). Limiting alcohol consumption has been deemed to be a reasonable restriction.
