will a dwi show up on my background even if i have not been convicted?

It depends. Some counties report DWI arrests regularly to DPS and it's Crime Information department. Some do not, and will only report convictions/dismissals. Whether or not this will show up on a background check depends on what kind of background check is performed. The companies that sell this information to third parties charge different rates for conviction information versus convictions and arrest information.
The bottom line is that there is no way to guarantee what is and what is not going to show up. You might want to talk to an attorney before you fill out a job application or make any representation about your open case.
