elderly friend
I have been a friend to an 87 year old lady for 10 years..........I stay with her occassionaly at her request and her family won't talk to her because she drinks.....she has started to go down the past 6 or 7 months and I want to make sure that her wishes of NOT being put in a nursing home are carried out..........she has a house that is paid for and is financially stable.........she pays her bills as they come in the mail..........she is a stubborn lady and doesn't want her sons telling her what to do...........what can I do to make sure her wishes are carried out.........she has a little dog that is her loving companion.........that dog does not know it is a dog........jokingly we have discussed her leaving her house to her dog and her dog to me..........she is very determined not to leave her house for any reason, but I can not be there all the time.............I'm there when I can and we are very personal friends...........I would do anything in the world for her but I'm concerned her sons will try to make her go into a home.............she is not losing her mind but her health has declined in the past several months............what can I do to make sure her wishes are taken care of NOT to leave her house!

Re: elderly friend
As an older person myself, I understand your friend's worry...and you could discuss with a local attorney for her to set up a trust..with you/or her sons as trustee..and stipulate in the trust No NURSING HOME and a medical dirictive..strong language.....and she could have peace.
