Free online legal research
Is there a website that is searchable that allows one who is not a lawyer to research the law in a particular state? I would like to become knowledgable about elder financial abuse law, criminal and civil, in New Mexico

Any site out there will be found in a google search. I don't think NM will have as much information online as some other states, but I can give you a referral to a Santa Fe attorney who does family law, which is what you're essentially interested in learning about. NanceGroup.com
