Legal Question in Entertainment Law in Texas

I bought a lever action "pistol" in Killeen TX, however I was denied access to a pistol shooting range by the Range Officer. She claimed it was a rifle. It is a Rossi Ranch Hand 38/357 caliber meant to be fired with either one or both hands and doesn't have a shoulder stock. I need to know what my firearm is legally classified as but can't find any answers. I apologize, I don't know what area of law this is.

It's $500 toy. Classified as a handgun, but often mistakenly called a rifle due to its heritage and appearance. It is a Rossi replica of the Winchester Model 92 lever action rifle with cut off stock called the Winchester Randall or Randall Special most famously used by Steve McQueen in "Wanted Dead or Alive". It is normally shot "off-hand" or from the hip and is incredibly inaccurate generally when used due to the goofy shooting position. It is not really a useful item, just mostly a novelty item bought for fun by Steve McQueen wannabes or drug criminals. In fact, due to the bow lever and short stock it is rather dangerous since users seem to try to cock it by twirling by the lever with one hand like Steve did. Good way to shoot yourself.

Here is a nice article by American Rifleman on it. http://www.americanrifleman.org/articles/rossi-ranch-hand-review which notes it "is not a rifle at all."

FYI, I used to be the lawyer for Winchester for many years.
