Legal Question in Entertainment Law in Texas

Copyright Infringement

How much of a song do you have to play to have a possible copyright infringement? If I improvise on the melody from a chorus but never add the verse or bridge am I still liable for copyright infringement of a whole song?

Re: Copyright Infringement

Based on what you have written, anytime that a song is used to make a profit; the party using the song for the profit is opening themselves up to a potential lawsuit. Pursuant to the current laws, a copyrighten song has protection from another party using the song and passing it off as the user original work and making a profit. You might want to consider seeking assistance from a law firm.
