Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

17 runaway or what?

i work with a 17 yr old boy who is a good worker and a great student but he has troubles at home. his mother is not around and his father is hardly there leaving him with his stepmom. over the last year he has been ''kicked out'' no twice. this last time she even hit him. he spoke with his dad and he said if he wants to leave he can. my husband and i have offered to let him stay with us since he can't live on his own yet. can we do this with his father's consent or does the boy need to be emancipated first? Also, i am unclear on whether he can be considered a runaway if his parents decide to file a missing persons claim and could my husband and i or anyone else with whom he stays be charged with anything? please help. he wants to stay in the same school for hs senior year and continue working at his job.
