Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

In 2009, I was unemployed for 8 months, I paid child support from what savings I had however, I ran out of money and did not pay child support for 4 months ( Nov '09 - Mar 2010 ). Once I got a job, I started to make payments again starting in March 2010 and have been making child support payments on time.

For the 4 months I missed, I owe $4500 in arrears ( child support is $1049 per month, the extra amount owed is for additional items ).

I recently received a letter from the state of Texas saying that they will have her child support taken out of my pay directly from my employer. They will take $1049 per month and an additional $150 to be applied towards the arrears. No problem HOWEVER the letter states I owe $7180.88 in accrued interest. Is interest really that much???

How can I challenge this amount and interest? Any advise is appreciated.

File a lawsuit called a Motion to Reduce Child Support Arrearage to Judgment. Serve Mom, and serve the AG. Let them justify their numbers to a judge.
