Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

We have a 17 year old grand-daughter living in Texas who is pleading with us to get her out of a very difficult family relationship. Her parents are very over-controlling; the situation has been going on for years and seems to be getting worse as she is getting older. She is a good kid, makes good grades, and works part-time. She is constantly grounded for no good reason and we are afraid she is reaching the "end of her rope". She spends summers with us and hates the thought of having to go back home. We've talked to the parents and things get better for a short time, but wind up getting worse in the long run.

Can she initiate an emancipation proceeding against her parents knowing that she is more than welcome to come live with us in Arkansas? We would gladly accept any and all responsibilities on her behalf (financial, educational, medical, etc.)

She can initiate, but if she is going to have a hard time winning if her parents object. She's going to have to explain why specific acts or failures to act on the part of her parents is harmful to her well-being. Being grounded, alone, is not going to satisfy the court.

Good luck!!
