Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

My 16 year old no longer wants to visit with his father on the fathers weekend. The father will protest. Does the minor 16 year old have to go to his fathers house for the weekend.

This is a difficult question, and the answer is: It depends on the Judge.

Unfortunately, the Family Code treats a 16-year-old "child" the same as a six-year-old child.

If I were you, I would

1. Tell the father that the child doesn't want to go.

2. Tell the "child" that he has to go.

Some judges would say: You have to control your child. You don't let him stay out all night; you make him go to school; you don't let him eat Snickers bars for dinner. You have to control him with regard to this court order also.
