Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
I have a 16 year old neice who is afraid of her Grandfather who is her joint conservator with her Grandmother. She asked them to allow her to move in with me and instead of talking it over with her, they ordered her to leave their house immediately and go live with her mother. Her mother has failed to appear in any court case to date regarding the custody of her children and currently lives in filth in a delapidate trailer that is infested with roaches, mice, etc. Neither mother nor her boyfriend have jobs and haven't been able to get jobs, mother has pending arrest warrants and my neice does not want to be there either (for obvious reasons). What are our options to intervene on her behalf without CPS making her a ward of the state? I live in another state and she has stated her wishes to come live with me. I have a nice home and my husband has an excellent job to support us all. His employer sponsored health insurance will cover her medical expenses. This young girl has extensive medical issues and neither her custodial grandparents nor her mother are in a position to provide medically for her (except for state sponsored welfare insurance). Again, she is 16 years old, doesn't she have a voice to be heard?
