Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Im 23 years old and i want custody of my 7 yearold sister. she is currently living with her cousin ,who is an adult around 40 .when my little sister was a year old she was placed with her aunt(not any relation to me ) by cps and lived with her until she was 5 her aunt passed away ,so her husband had her for a couple of months ,then one of her cousins got her and couldnt take care of her because she had kids of her own. so her other cousin took her in . she also has kids and is at work all the time im not sayin she doesnt take care of her ,because i really dont know she lets me see her and take her for weekends and stuff, but the problem is that my mother is in prison and is gonna be there for a while , and her father passed away .the cousin that has her wants sole custody of her and we feel she only wants her for her money , she gets checks from her fathers death the first person who had her had her brother which is my sister's father had him do a last will that left everything to my sister. for the record he wasnt in his right state of mind. so she gets his v a, social security checks each month. and we believe thats the only reason. i need to know what i can do to either get her or stop the checks.and have the v a hold them till she's of age. i dont want her money just her. i dont have money for a lawyer my mother wants her to be with me. because ever since they have had her since she was one year old they havent let us see her and have a relationship with her. please help.

You say you can't afford an attorney, but you are going to need one. There are lawyers who will work with you on payments. This child has been passed around a lot, but are there any court orders? Has it happened informally, or through the courts. There are too many issues involved here for a simple explanation -- you need to find a lawyer. Start with the VA -- ask if they have referrals to agencies that provide assistance for minors of deceased veterans.
