Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

We have been together for 20 years, and filed income tax together as married. Now it is over, and I don't even have a bicycle to ride or a roof over my head. What can I do?

It sounds that you may be able to assert that you have a common law marriage, depending on certain facts. Filing jointly as husband and wife is a biggie.

This may be important because if you have a common law marriage, then you can file for divorce and everything (with a few exceptions) that you and your common law spouse accumulated during the marriage is community property, and you are entitled to a share (probably half). It doesn't matter whose name is on anything.

You need to consult with an experienced family law attorney immediately to determine your best course of action. I would be happy to talk with you.
