Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

aadopting my step-daughter

I'm trying to adopt my step-daughter. Her biological Dad is out of the picture. We have not had any contact with him for about 5 years. He has not paid any child support in about 8 years. Do I have to track him down and get him to sign over his parental rights to adopt her?

It is easier if he signs away his rights.

However, his rights can also be involuntarily terminated.

You will need to file 2 lawsuits - a termination and a step-parent adoption.

I urge you to retain an attorney. It is complicated.
