Abandoment

my ex-husband has not seen my daughter in almost five years. he is currently in jail for the third time since she was born. is there a way to file abadoment on him, and is there assitance programs in houston,tx for single, low-income mothers who need help drawing up the paperwork?

Check with the law schools in Houston for assistance programs. But, I doubt that you will be able to terminate his parental rights. You might be able to limit him to supervised visitation with some agency that would charge him to visit the child thus effectively eliminating him from the child's life. I hope that will be OK with the child in 15-20 years. Ssometimes it is, sometimes it's not. Good Luck.
