Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Adopting an adult child

My husband would like to adopt my son from a previous marriage. We have been married for 16 years, my son is 22 and has not seen nor heard from his biological father since he was 7. I have two questions:

1.Could my husband adopt my son, now that he is an adult without the consent of the biological father?

2.My husband & I both had property prior to our marriage. Our intent in our is that my property would go to my son and his property would be split between his two daughters. If our will is drawn up to indicate this division of property, could the fact that my husband has adopted my son change this?

Thanks.

Re: Adopting an adult child

It's easy to adopt an adult child.

The biological father does NOT have to be notified.

I'd hire an attorney to assist in the process.

Call around to lawyers in your area and find out the lowest price for an adult adoption.

Good luck!
