Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Adopting a step child

I have a child (6 1/2 years old) that I have raised since birth. After her and the mother went to Texas for a temporary stay it has been found through DNA from Texas A.G. office that I am not the father. I want to the father - and mom wants me as the legal father. How can I get this done or what do I need to do? I raised this child since birth. Real father is unknown.

Re: Adopting a step child

You will have to go through the adoption process. I am unfamiliar with Texas' adoption law, and if the child is in Texas, you are going to need to do the adoption in Texas, but even if the real father is unknown, a good faith effort must be made to notify the father. You should find an attorney in the locale where the child is to help you with this.
