adoption!!

i am a birth mother. I want to give up the rights to my child. One of the potential fathers wants the child, last I heard. Haven't heard from him since March. 5 weeks till baby arrives. Want to give the child up for adoption. Can I without his consent. I don't know how to get in touch with him. He is not the best candidate for a father. 20 yrs old, temp worker, drugs... etc.
