Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Adoption

My husband wants to adopt my daughter. My ex now wants to be in her life after sometime. My ex does have visitation, but has not chosen to see her until now. Is it a good idea to let him see her during the adoption process? What are the options if he chooses not to sign over his rights?

Re: Adoption

Well, there are not enough details here to give specific advice. If your ex has court ordered visitation then you could risk jail time for contempt of court by refusing him visitation. If your ex wants to be part of his daughter's life now, termination will be very difficult. What will adoption do for your daughter? It will mean that her father will no longer be required to provide child support so there will be less money to raise her. Think long and hard before you do the termination and adoption. I usually advise against it unless the parent to be terminated is a danger to the child or is a criminal who is well known and knowledge of the parentage would be a handicap to the child.
