Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Adoption Laws

I have a daughter, and there is no father in the picture. When she was born, the father space was left blank on her birth certificate. I am engaged to a man, and he wants to adopt my daughter after we are married. Would we have to find her birth father in order for the adoption to take place?

Re: Adoption Laws

Yes. Amd a serious effort must be made to find him to serve him with a petition to terminate his parental rights. If he cannot be found, you must still serve him a copy of the petition by publication. A judge will oversee this process to make sure all possible efforts are made to locate the father. This is not greatly expensive but must be done for the adoption to be legal.
