adoption of stepson

My husband has been im my son's life since he was eight months old would like to adopt my son. his biological father left me when I was four months pregnant and has never been a part of my son's life. How do we proceed with termination of rights, name change and adoption in the state of texas?

Termination and adoption, especially when the whereabouts are unknown, is a complex legal proceeding, and requires experience and expertise. You need to hire a lawyer.

The first thing you need to do is find the child's father. Failure to do will triple or quadruple the cost of the adoption. No judge will terminate the bio father's rights without this process. Next, hire an attorney who can tell you how this process will work and how long it will take. It shouldn't take long depending upon finding the long gone father. This will take some money, and while you are looking for the bio father, you could make payments to the attorney. Good Luck.
