Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

I know a woman who is on drugs and wants to give her baby away. She leaves the child with random friends and family, (none of whom are capable of taking care of a one year old full time). What would my husband and I have to do to adopt the baby?

You don't have to' but if you want to be legal parents, you would have to adopt the child. Children can't be given like a friendship ring. Only an order of the court can decide the fate of this child. I'm not sure what standing you would have to adopt the child - other than loving prospective parents, of course. You should consult a family law attorney in your area to determine how best to activate your plan.
