Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

age at when a child can leave home

my son is 17. we had to move out of the school district where he has attended all his life. He would like to move in with a friend so he can attend his senior year at the school he has bee attending. Is he legally ok to do so. I am his parent and am fully supportive. The other family is willing and supportive, too.

Re: age at when a child can leave home

Most school districts require that the child reside with a parent or legal guardian (by court order). Although he is not 'truant' or 'runaway' at age 17, and is an adult for the criminal justice system, he is still a child for civil matters.

As an aside, it has been my experience that most school districts will allow an out of district student to complete his senior year of high school, if he completed his junior year at that school. Call the school district and ask them.
