Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Alcoholic Mother
My mother lives in Arkansas, I live in TX, she's not married, and was just recently hospitalized for heart problems. I contacted her doctor and was honest with him about the amount of drinking that she does, because she nor her sisters were forth coming with things information...she found out from one of her sisters and was very furious with me. She is now on blood thinners and meds that she should not be drinking on, and my main concern is that if something were to happen to her, do I have the right being her only child over her sisters to step in and take care of my mother or do they have them? Also she lives with her sister who is an alcholic as well.

Re: Alcoholic Mother
you do not have any "rights". Your mother has the rights. If you want the rights, you will have to get a court order of guardianship. You can get this over your mother's protests if you can show that she is incompetent. Drinking alcohol and taking medication might be some evidence of incompetency along with other evidence that you might come up with. It is not automatic and will likely cost some money and emotions. Good Luck.
