Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Alimony, child support

I live in Texas and thinking about getting married in the next year. I'm worried that my fiance's ex wife will want more child support and alimony. Is there a way I can get married and secure my money so she doesn't get any?

Re: Alimony, child support

Getting married could reduce the child support obligation if you have children with your fiance. The child support obligation is reduced a few percent per additional not subject to the court's support order.

Child support is based on net resources of the parent. Generally this is based on gross income less income and social security taxes and any insurance for the child.

Keep separate accounts so you don't have to prove which money came from your spouse and which money was yours.

Generally there are two ways to lower child support, increase the number of children outside of the order and reduce income. However the other spouse could raise an issue of intentional underemployment and ask the court to calculate child support based on the spouse's earning capacity as oppossed to actual income.

Finally, to reduce or increase child support there must be a court order which requires a court hearing and yes

lawyers. Get one.
