Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Altered document after signing
I signed my divorce papers, and when my wife went to the judge to file the papers, the documents were altered. Items were lined out and new lines were added by the judge. I did not know the changes were made until my copy was mailed to me. I did not intial anything or give any verbal agreement to have such changes made. Is it legal to change a document after it has been signed?

Re: Altered document after signing
If your spouse or her atty made the changes, then you should file to have the decree set aside.
If the judge made the alterations for a legal reason, you may not be successful in getting it set aside.
An attorney needs to review both documents.
In any event your right to contest the entry of the order evaporates in most cases, within 30 days after entry, so you need to take action immediately.
