Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

amicus attorney fee

My wife and I are adopting our nehpew. His amicus attorney is charging us $1200. Our lawyer mailed him back saying that $500 was the most he has ever seen. Would just like a second opinion.

Thank you

Re: amicus attorney fee

Based on what you have written, $500 is typically the lowest amount ever requested by an amicus. Remember that the amicus is a friend of the judge. I have seen amicus' fees as high as $2,000. It ultimately depends upon the time spent on the case. You should ask for an accounting of his time. If my law firm can assist you with any legal matter, please contact my legal assistant Jennifer ([email protected]) to arrange for an initial consultation.

Re: amicus attorney fee

$1200 is unusual. $500 might be a little low. You or your attorney can always contest the fee, but usually the "amicus" is a buddy of the judge. But it might not cost anything to contest. Ask for his records to see what he has done. Good Luck
