Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
assets, salary, companies, and child support
My ex-husband divorced me without my knowledge and stated that there were no children. There are 4 (tow of which have reached the age of 18 since he filed). He has his own company in which he purchases, renovaates, and re-sells property, and he has another company in which he delivers seminars to the tune of $600 per head. His companies are listed under various entities, and at least one is based in the Bahamas. He pays himself a salary of $1200, but it is evident that he is living far above that level. The child support is based on this salary. What can I do? Can assets be counted in determing child support?

Why is there child support being paid if he stated
there were no children?? I am obviously missing some
facts here, however it seems obvious that you should
file some kind of motion to modify and attempt to up
the support. It may be difficult if he has hidden his
assets, but often times his tax returns provide info
that would be useful. I hope this helps.

Is there a child support order? If so, when was it signed, and how did it come about given that your ex divorced you without your knowledge and without telling the court there were any kids? Or is he just paying you minimal support out of the goodness of his heart?
If you have reason to think that your ex is enjoying a lifestyle not commensurate with his ostensible income, then you certainly can move the court to increase child support provided you already have an order. Child support is based on what money flows through his hands, not on what he says he gets.
