Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
I think that I have an attorney
I have not had any correspondence from ''my lawyer'' since I signed the divorce paperwork in June 2008, in Kingwood TX. Not even a courtesy call, after several attempts to have conversation with him. What are my options? Please help...

what divorce paperwork are you speaking of? If it was the final judgment, then everything is over, and you won't be getting any calls.

But, if it was the initial intake paperwork, perhaps contract for representation, then you should see something. Perhaps a Petition for Divorce, etc. If you are not happy with your attorney, you can fire him. If you have paid him, you can request all or some of your money back. You can file a grievance with the State Bar. Look it up on the internet. The State Bar will help you. Sometimes this motivates attorneys to refund money rather than have go to a grievance hearing. Good Luck.

You are allowed to fire him if you wish (just the threat of letting him go may be enough to get his attention back on your case). He may also have done everything to begin your divorce and there is just nothing to report. Either way, he must respond to your attempts at communication or you can report him to the disciplinary board. Please contact me if you have any further questions.
