Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Attorney General Surname Request

When I went to child support court over 7 years ago, I said I would change my daughter's surname to her father's. He was in prison then, and is still in prison. He wont get out for a few more years. I never received any paperwork about it, and when I called the attorney general's office, they said to wait until he gets out and we go back to court. Can I get into any trouble? When I looked into changing her name WITH a court order, both parents have to have a notarized statement statement before it can be effective. So...can I get into trouble??

Re: Attorney General Surname Request

It sounds like you have never been before a Judge. If so, then you have not been ordered to change her name.

If you have any other questions, you can call me and I'll try meet with you and explain in greater detail. My cost is $50 for a phone consultation.
