Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Attorney General Surname Request
When I went to child support court over 7 years ago, I said I would change my daughter's surname to her father's. He was in prison then, and is still in prison. He wont get out for a few more years. I never received any paperwork about it, and when I called the attorney general's office, they said to wait until he gets out and we go back to court. Can I get into any trouble? When I looked into changing her name WITH a court order, both parents have to have a notarized statement statement before it can be effective. So...can I get into trouble??

It sounds like you have never been before a Judge. If so, then you have not been ordered to change her name.
