Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
If your attorney wrote and signed a letter stating he will not charge any additional fees once he received a check I gave him, paid in full through the trial/settlement, and he sends me a huge bill for his fees and other charges, what do I do?? I have the original letter her wrote and signed. He told me there was not one and I was lying about having one. He said "look in your file .......there won't be one!!" as he yelled at me over the phone......I never received a bill in the last 7-8 months. There was an agreement I was paid in full and there may be some additional fees for the CPA to testify, but that he would let me know. He's wanting the additional 2500. for CPA plus his own additional fees for his services, depositions, etc. He has continued to work on my case. It is ready to go to trial. Now he wants over 50K or he will drop me as a client. I am waiting for his bill to arrive in the mail. Where do I stand??? I never thought I would have to protect myself from my own attorney!!

Contact the CAAP, which a program of the State Bar of Texas. They try to help attorneys and clients resolve fee disputes and can really lean on an attorney to live up to the contract. You can contact CAAP at http://www.texasbar.com/AM/Template.cfm?Section=Problems_with_an_Attorney&Template;=/CM/HTMLDisplay.cfm&ContentID=23699
Good luck!!
