Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
my atty didn't help
I have recently been represented by an atty in Texas (I'm in Virginia) in a custody/support case my ex-husband filed (he's in Tx with our kids). Kids have been w me 1995-2006 when they moved to Tx. He already owed back child supp of mid 72,000. The attorney (only one I could afford) left a lot to be desired. Seldom returned calls, left my case to be looked at to the day before court -so it seemed. Case got continued several times. I explained up front I would not be able to go to Tx for court & that he would need to represent me which he said would be just fine with a few signatures. My atty regularly seemed to go along with info my ex had provided to his attorney (mostly incorrect info) and I several times during process had to remind him he was on my side! In the end I do not feel my atty did much for me. feel court decicion was based my ex-husb's words - not facts. I do not feel ok signing final papers. Feel I have been wronged legaly. I have heard of ''lawyer competence of confidence''? Is there help for me at this time? What do I do? Can the case be revisited with competent atty?

First of all the AG attorney was never there to represent you. I'm not sure what gave you that idea. The AG represents the State of Texas and if your ex had an attorney, then it's no small wonder he prevailed. Changing what has happened now is difficult and very expensive. Good Luck.
