Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Auto theft or Not?
My sister separated from her boyfriend of 5 years. They have a truck that is in his name and a truck financed in her name.He kept both trucks. She filed a police report. The truck that is in her name is now parked on a car lot of a friend of his and the friend refuses to give it back to her. The police won't make the man that owns the lot give it back to her. They say its a civil matter. The funny thing is that she had the vehicle that was in her boyfriend's name and he filed a stolen vehicle report. She was nearly arrested luckily enough the officer that came out already knew the truck was part of a civil matter and wouldn't issue the warrant for her arrest but the police made her give the truck to him. When she complained to the same police department. They said the cop that filed the stolen vehicle report didn't check for other reports first . But there was nothing that they would do about the false report it was a civil matter. She is getting the run around. Her boyfriend took all the money even her clothes. No one in Law enforcement will help her. Every lawyer we have contacted won't talk to her. Where can someone with very little money get legal help? How can a person get away with filing false police report?

Re: Auto theft or Not?
Based on what you have written, it appears that your friend may have a case against the boyfriend for wrongful conversion (i.e., theft). Your friend should seek the assistance of a law firm when dealing with things like this. There are a variety of legal aid centers throughout Houston. If my law firm can assist your friend with this legal issue or any other legal matter, please have your friend contact my legal assistant Jennifer ([email protected]) to arrange for an initial consultation.
