Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Babies last name
I tried to get my 20 year old niece to get married to the man that gave her a child before the baby was born, she didn't. Can she legally give the baby the boyfriends last name in the mean time on the birth certificate? If not, when they do get married, will he have to adopt the child in order for the baby to change the last name to his last name? That would seem to be an expensive process, is it.

She can put his name on the birth certificate or she can leave it blank. He would not have to adopt the child - all he would have to do is acknowledge paternity and request a change on the birth certificate. Perhaps more than a $100 - much less than a $1000.
