Baby;s Legal name

In the State of Texas, does an unwed mather have to use the fathers last name for the baby if he is listed on the birth certificate as the father?

The State doesn't say you have to use the father's last name even if he is on the birth certificate. That is not the custom in many cultures. However, if the father is on the birth certificate he is probably going to want to have a say in the child's name. If you can't agree with him on the name, he may petition the court to make you change it during a paternity suit.
