Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Back Child support on a 27 old
First we live in Texas.
My husband's ex wife sent him an e-mail, said the attorney general's office got in touch with her. They told her that my husband owed 45k in back child support and she wanted to know how he was going to take care of it. Now, he had custody of the child for 4 years when she was going through hard times, the 'child' now is 27 years old. What I want to know is this:
I own a house(before we were married in my name and my deceased mother's name)
I own a small business in my name only.
Even if we could get the money to pay, who would that go to, the child or the ex wife?
I suggest we get a divorce so that she cannot 'tag' my house, business or any of my assets.
Also, I don't think that the Attorney general's office contacted her, I believe she is in high debt or something, and is grabbing at straws to get herself out of trouble.
What can happen to us as far as staying married and going through this?

With 45K at stake, I suggest you get a lawyer. Statute of limitation on these cases is 10 years after the child turns 18. So, if they don't file a lawsuit and get a judgment soon, your husband might not have to pay anything. Good Luck.
