Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
back child support
I owe over $16,000 in back child support to my ex who lives in South Carolina. We were divorced in Kentucky. She said she was having it moved to SC and that they would come after me here in Texas and take me back to SC to jail until all back support is paid. It would be a work release jail. Can they do this, will Texas send me back or would SC come and get me. What can happen? I want to pay just don't have it all now.

Re: back child support
The states are now working together to collect unpaid child support.
The case will probably be sent to the Texas Attorney General's office and they will come after you.
Be advised that the Texas Attorney General cannot represent you.
I would strongly urge you to hire an attorney to assist in your case.
The Texas A G will put you in jail for nonpayment of child support. They don't do work-release. You sit in jail until you pay the amount you are ordered to pay or approx. 6 months.
When you receive a letter from the Texas A G or are served, I would strongly urge you to retain an attorney to negotiate on your behalf.
If you want a free phone consultation, please call me if you are in the Houston area.
