Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Back Medical Support After Child is 18
My son turned 18 last March. I was court ordered to provide medical insurance for him but could not afford it. It also stated that I would be 100% responsible if I failed to provide insurance. He was in a major accident 2 yrs ago which racked up about half a million in medical bills. Since my son is over 18 now can my x come back and sue me for all the medical bills he paid? what about the ones that he didn't pay? Neither he or the attorney general has filed anything with the court but I was just wondering if he could do that anytime or would it have to be done by the time he turned 18?

Re: Back Medical Support After Child is 18
You continue to be responsible. Unless it is established that there is a disability requiring continued support as an adult, the AG or your husband can come after you anytime in the next four years. There are some exceptions. If either file suit for contempt, be sure to retain an attorney. In the meantime, it would be worth your while to send money each month marked as medical co-pay for your child, as it indicates your willingness to pay, but inability to pay the full amount.
