backing off trial

what are the general rules when a judge should take him/her off a certain trial ???

so it would not seem bias against one party or the other.

please give me good examples !!!

It is rare for a judge to be removed from a pending lawsuit.

If the judge knows the people or has an interest in the matter, then he/she must remove herself.

Example: She owns stock in Exxon and Exxon is sued. That judge cannot be involved if it could impact the stock he/she owns.

The judge is the father-in-law in a divorce case. Then he should not be the judge in the case.
