Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Borrowed Money

My niece's husband walked out on her. He has offered no support -not a dime- since his departure. Although she has filed for divorce, the courts move very slowly. Meanwhile, I have had to pay her car note and some car repair the last 2 or 3 months.

How can she include this money in her divorce/child support case to retrieve money she has had to "borrow" until she can get his contributions for child support? What recourse do I have to pursue him for my expenses if she cannot do so in her divorce case?

Re: Borrowed Money

You are speaking of spousal support, not child support. This must be applied for within the divorce as an issue separate from child support.

You are voluntarily supporting the wife. You have no obligation to do so, and he has no obligation to you for doing so. She may be able to get support from him, but you will have to get your contributions back from her.
