If someone buys the divorce papers online how does the process of the divorce happen or goes?

"Divorce online" is generally a bad idea. You end up making mistakes and getting bogged down (you go to court for the final hearing, and the Judge rejects your proposed decree but doesn't tell you how to correct it), and you end up having to hire a lawyer anyway to fix things.

If you have no children, and you aren't making house payments, then a "no lawyer" divorce kit might work for you and save you money.

There are attorneys (Fran Brochstein comes to mind) have DIY packets that are actually geared to Texas law, and provide guidance to complete the process. As Mr. Dunn points out, it often costs more in the long run, than if you had simply hired a lawyer for the uncontested divorce.

Thanks Theresa for the kind words. Theresa and I have never actually met. But we answer questions on this website and I've referred people to her since I like her answers.

If you buy a kit on-line - you are on your own! Good luck! Most are companies outside of Texas. I have seen many of the kits and I enjoy reading them. I can't understand them -- but then I've only practiced law for over 19 years!
