Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

How to change a childs name when father has never been around.

Father was not present for birth or anytime after that. Father was only a date for the mother that ended up with a child. Mother is now married and wants to change the child's name. If it can't be done in Texas, can it be done in another state? Thanks

Since you know who the father is you must get his permission--or find out if he is the father then terminate his rights first.

A minor child's name can be changed in Texas if the law is followed.

If you live in Texas, you cannot go to another state. Texas has jurisdiction over the child.

If you permanently move to another state then that state would have jurisdiction and Texas would lose jurisdiction.

How long you would have to live in another state would depend on that state's laws.
