Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Name Change

My daughter whose biological father terminated his rights uses my fiance's last name in school. He wants her to use it legally but we do not have the funds to go through the whole adoption process right now. Is there a way to do this?

Re: Name Change

Short of an adoption, you could file suit seeking to change the name of minor. The usual barrier to this is the other parent who will not consent to the name change. If the only other parent has had the parental rights terminated, they will no longer be a party to the name change lawsuit or otherwise have any voice in the matter. If you are located in the general Houston area, this is something which I can help you with. Please contact me if you are interested in visiting about these matters further.
