Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Name Change
What do I need to do to have my daughters names changed on their birth certificate? I hyphenated their last name and want to remove my ex husbands name. He is willing to do this. He has never paid a penny of child support in the last 17 years and has not been a part of their lives. When my daughter graduates, I do not want his name on her diploma.

Re: Name Change
If the children's father consents to the name change it is a fairly simple process. I can handle this matter for you. I am a board certified specialist in the field of family law, practicing in the general Houston area. Contact me directly if you want to discuss you options in greater detail.
Re: Name Change
You need to file suit in the District Court to change her name. Father can sign a waiver indicating he has no objections. Have the court enter an order changing the name. It is a relatively simple process but I suggest you hire a lawyer to be sure it is done properly.
